The Canadian Institutes of Health Research announced nearly $1 million in funding for dozens of projects like this across the country.
Western University's team includes experts in virology, microbiology, immunology, vaccionology, and bioinformatics, with the goal of developing and testing a vaccine for the novel coronavirus.
Professor emeritus Chil-Yong Kang of Schulich Medicine & Dentistry has been working on a vaccine for a related illness, MERS. The team's efforts on COVID-19 builds upon his work.
Researchers worldwide are racing to develop and test vaccines and treatments for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Already, a human clinical trial of another potential vaccine has begun in Seattle.
